Introduction: Don’t over-buy

You might be tempted to stock up on all kinds of tools and books before you learn your first stitch. However, the more you crochet, the more you will learn about what you like and what you don’t about some yarn, crochet tools, crochet pattern terms and types of projects.

Contact us to know what kind of material is provided.

Yarn for beginner Crocheters

Starting off, find a yarn that will be easy to see and work with.

We recommend selecting a light or bright yarn color. Darker colors and white are harder to see your stitches and mistakes.

For the yan size, find worsted weight yarn size. For material, acrylic yarn or a mixed cotton blend will do.

Crochet hooks for beginners

If your yarn label includes recommended crochet hook size, choose the larger hook size. If not, we recommend purchasing a 4mm crochet hook (‘G’ crochet hook in the USA).

Aluminum hooks are the cheapest you can buy. Ergonomic crochet hooks, which have a larger soft handle over the top of the metal, make crocheting more comfortable.

Stitch markers

They help you keep track of your current place in a project, and help you keep count of your stitches. If you don’t want to buy stitch markers you can use things from around the house instead such as paper clips, bobby pins (hair pins), or safety pins.

Yarn scissors

While normal scissors might work for you, they usually will not cut yarn the way they should. You might have to cut yarn multiple times with these scissors to get the thread to break in two.

All-in-one Crochet Starter Set

If you think you are going to be into crochet for the long run, we recommend buying a starter set which includes a range of crochet hook sizes, stitch markers, pins, and yarn scissors. The only thing these sets won’t include is your yarn but they have everything else you need.
